ECRV Emergency Communications VehicleFAQ's
(Page Rev: 03/14/2009)

Q) What is the primary purpose ?
A) In large-scale disasters, communication
can be difficult. The ECRV provides direct communication with National Red Cross headquarters via Satellite. This then provides computer and voice access for Red Cross volunteers to provide help to Victims of a Disaster.

Q) What equipment is in the ECRV?
A) 12 wireless laptop computers, 10 IP wireless telephones, 10 Cell phones for use by volunteers at a disaster. The truck has a VSAT mobile satellite transceiver, 14 radios, 3 truck cell phones (including one SAT phone), 6 portable UHF radios, and a portable lowband radio, a JPS Interoperability Radio Switch capable of tying any of the radios and phones together, a DSS digital television receiver, a VHS recorder/player, Remote Video Camera.

Q) Is this where my donated dollars are going?
A) The vehicles and most of the equipment were donated to the American Red Cross.

Q) How do I become an American Red Cross DSHR Volunteer?
A) Contact your local chapter. To be deployed to a disaster outside the chapter area, you must be a part of the ARC Disaster Services Human Resources system (DSHR), which requires completion of basic disaster training, First Aid/CPR, and training in your disaster specialty. In DSHR, ECRV Operator/Drivers are part of the Disaster Services Technology Team(DSTT).

If you have other questions please contact one of the ECRV coordinators (listed at top of page).

Thank you
